Live like a river flows
“I would love to live like a river flows, carried by the surprise of its own unfolding” – John O’Donohue
A lot has been happening behind the scenes here this week, and I’m loving how so much right now feels like an unfolding.
I’m feeling in tune with the changing weather, the tiny flowers and new blades of grass I saw on a recent walk, and the light that stretches farther and farther into the evening with each passing day.
I’m feeling in tune with the journey my art is taking, as new colors and themes emerge and pull me further into exploration and growth.
I’m feeling in tune with my body (did I tell you I’m on a super restricted diet right now?), as I learn what foods make me feel sick and what foods make me feel alive.
Lastly, I’m feeling in tune with my purpose. More than anything else, this feeling of connectedness lightens the demands of every day life.
Here is this week’s painting:
As I continue to experiment with blurring the lines between landscape and abstraction, I’m feeling drawn to these slightly magical, slightly imaginary worlds. I love adding a little playful mystery to my work lately and in this painting especially, it feels like there’s a story (or multiple stories) just beneath the surface for us to discover.
I’m also hard at work getting my 12 (!!!) newest paintings photographed and ready so that I can make prints and note cards available as well. Here’s a shot of our weekend photo shoot where we hung some of my paintings on the wall to get better photographs.
And here’s an example of some of the newest prints! We’re currently color correcting and experimenting to get the colors just right. I’m so excited to share them with you soon.
Life is busy and good and definitely messy around here. Between Eric’s schedule with work and school and my schedule with the business, we’ve completely neglected keeping the house clean lately. Piles everywhere, lots of cat fur to vacuum up, the office in disarray with painting and printing supplies, and mail waiting to be sorted on the table. As someone who is generally super organized, I’m choosing to see both the humor and humility in the fact that our house is a direct reflection of our priorities lately. I’m looking forward to a big, purposeful spring cleaning where we can purge out the chaos and reintroduce a clean, calming place to live.
Last but certainly not least, I have two more quick things to share with you:
- A giveaway! I reached 100 sales in my online shop, which had been my goal for year 1 in business. I’m still months away from the end of year 1, which feels so super exciting. To celebrate, I’ll be doing a print giveaway soon for someone on my newsletter list. If you want to hop on my list and have a chance at a free print, sign up just below!
- I was recently connected with a beautiful little company called Loverope. A loverope is a customizable bracelet and I picked ‘I am enough’ to be stamped onto mine. What do you think?
Here’s to living like a river flows, allowing ourselves to unfold a little further at each new bend. Here’s also to progress on the projects that light us up, messy houses and all.
