A letter to myself (plus, new art!)
“We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.” – Anais Nin
I wrote a letter to myself this week.
Have you ever done this?
It has always been important to me to journal and write down my thoughts, in addition to writing messages to friends and family. There’s so much power in writing down what’s in our hearts, even if it takes months of distance and reflection to actually discover what to do with that information.
There’s so much truth in what we say when no one is listening.
Shine Bright.
The painting, unmatted / matted art prints, and note cards are available in my shop.
Writing the letter was an interesting exercise in slowing down and recording a little snapshot of my current state of mind. It’s amazing how writing things down is like a little release, each time. You no longer have to hold those thoughts inside your mind when they are safely on paper. You can always return to your words.
Here’s what I wrote:
Dear self,
You are on the verge of cracking down the walls you’ve had up for so many years. You are SO CLOSE! You are on the verge of actually honoring what makes you happy. Trust that you are on the right path, even if it feels like you’re staring off the edge of a ravine. Remember to keep asking for help.
You are finally beginning to recognize that your gifts are worth sharing with the world. You are beginning to recognize that you have gifts in the first place. Don’t forget! Do not give anyone the power to tell you otherwise.
And remember: everything will get done, with your intuition to guide you. Stay calm.
When all else fails, breathe in and out. You will find peace. You can do this.
Love,
Elizabeth
I’m curious to see how I feel a few months from now. I can feel myself focusing further during the past few weeks, looking deeper inside my heart and brushing away the drama and negativity that have no place there. All I want these days is to feel and give love (to myself, my friends and family. To you).
Honor your beginnings, friends! Always. Remember them and write them down.
I Love You.
Unmatted / matted art prints and note cards are available in my shop.
This brings me to a wonderful quote that has stuck with me recently: “write what should not be forgotten” (Isabel Allende).
To me, what should not be forgotten is love.
One of the ways I’ve always enjoyed showing love is writing really heartfelt cards to friends and family. I know that receiving a handwritten card makes my whole life feel a little brighter, and I adore making someone else’s life a little brighter too. Perhaps it was inevitable that I’d turn my art into note cards?
Regardless, there are new note cards in my shop that speak to these exact feelings I’ve been wanting in my life lately: joy. peace. love. play. The three winter scenes – Joy, Peace, and Love – are also perfect for sharing your love this holiday season. The winter cards can be found with my other holiday/winter listings here, and all of the cards are here.
These cards are in addition to new art prints of the same paintings – both matted and unmatted). The winter art prints are in the winter section of my shop.
Here’s to recording our memories, ideas, and notes to others. To honoring what we feel and telling others the truth. To love.
xo,
