When we dream (a new painting!)

I have a new painting to share with you today.

I like to think that in this piece we’ve strayed into a dream and here are two tiny friends lost in their own fun. I wanted something peaceful and quirky to emerge:

The first few layers of paint to go down are always about exploration… seeing what works and what doesn’t.

Once I liked the direction of the characters, I added the first few layers of background color. I always end up painting over my sketch and then I need to do it again, but that’s all part of the fun:

Then it was time for flowers, stars, little details, and color:

The painting is almost finished here, with just a few more details to add:

Adding something new into the world that wasn’t there before always feels like a little bolt of happiness. Prints and cards to come!
